Influence of Artificial Intelligence on Enhancing the Learning Process in Tourism Management Education

Abstract

Artificial intelligence is an important element of higher education, which eventually affects the quality of teaching, learning, and students’ learning outcomes. Although it is adopted widely in practice, there is little empirical evidence available on how it influences the learning process of students in education related to tourism management. Thus, this study aims to explore the association between the frequency of using AI and two important elements related to learning such as self-efficacy and motivation for learning among undergraduates majoring in tourism management. Based on Self-Determination Theory and Adaptive Learning Theory, the study has employed a quantitative research method. For this research, survey data were collected from three universities' tourism management undergraduates (N = 300) by a structured questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were applied to briefly describe the data. Further, the simple linear regression analyses were conducted to look at the relationships between AI usage frequency, self-efficacy, and learning motivation. The findings show that AI utilization was positively linked to both constructs, and it significantly predicted these factors in the regression models. The results suggest that AI-supported learning environments may strengthen students’ confidence and motivation through personal feedback, adaptive learning support, and flexible learning experiences. This study offers evidence of the influence of AI on undergraduate students’ learning processes in tourism management education. Practically, the results offer useful insights for educators, universities, and government officials to support the effective integration of AI-assisted learning tools within higher education to enhance the learning process.
